Is it just me, or is it ridiculously difficult to find a good exfoliant? For me, they’re either too harsh or too time-consuming to use (as in, it comes in a powder and I have to mix water into it. I NEVER GET THE RATIO PERFECT). When I bought my Clarisonic, I loved it but used it WAY too much. I don’t know why they say you can use it twice daily, because I’m willing to bet that a large percentage of the population cannot, like me, and I applied VERY gentle pressure. My skin eventually had nothing more to give and it wasn’t a good feeling. I learned to slow down my Clarisonic use to once every 1-2 weeks, and life improved immensely…until something arrived in the mail that made me COMPLETELY forget about my Clarisonic for months, until a few days ago. No joke.
When True Nature Botanicals reached out to me and asked if I wanted to try the Exfoliating Cleanser from their Pacific skincare line, I leapt at the chance for a couple of major reasons:
1. They are a safe, toxin-free anti-aging skincare line. I’m in my 30’s now, anti-aging is where I’m at. And yeah, I’m really into green skincare because it’s been working very well for me thus far.
2. They understand adults still suffer from acne – like me! It’s bloody hard to find a line that targets adult acne and anti-aging AT THE SAME TIME.
Who they are:
The Pacific skincare line was once part of Marie Veronique Organics (now Marie Veronique Advanced). Co-owners and business partners Hillary Peterson and Marie Veronique eventually had different visions for their company going forward, and at some point last year separated the MVO line and the Pacific line and launched two different companies, the Pacific line falling under True Nature Botanicals.
CEO Hillary Peterson is a thyroid cancer and melanoma survivor, so I think it’s safe to say that ensuring True Nature Botanicals produces highly effective, toxin-free, and safe personal care products is probably pretty high on her priority list.
What it is:
TN Botanicals Pacific Exfoliating Cleanser is a 92% organic super gentle exfoliant, utilizing adzuki bean powder and a patented Mucor Miehei mushroom extract to loosen dead skin cells. By combining these with nourishing and anti-inflammatory ingredients such as kelp powder, chamomile powder and manuka honey, one is imparted with a smoother glowing complexion without the irritation.
This non-sudsing green/brown gel has bits of adzuki bean, but not so much that it becomes a scrub. When you massage it in, you’re first taken in by it’s refreshing but calming scent, and then intrigued by how emollient it feels on your skin. The non-abrasive adzuki bean reminds you that it’s an exfoliator but gives a hand to the overall refreshing quality.
Camellia sinensis (green & white tea)*, phaseolus angularis (adzuki bean) powder*, Actifoliate® [glycerin, water, mucor miehei extract, glucosamine HCI, urea], glycerin (vegetable glycerin)*, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) juice*, xanthan gum, polyaminopropyl biguanide**, honey (manuka honey)*, colloidal oat flour*, ascophyllum nodosum (kelp) powder*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) oleoresin*, matricaria recutita (chamomile flower) powder, potassium sorbate, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) essential oil*, pelargonium capitatum x radens (rose geranium) essential oil

How on earth did they manage to make me forget about my Clarisonic for so long? Well, from the first time I tried it back in February until now, I am still pleasantly surprised at how gentle and effective it is. Conventionally, one exfoliates at most a couple of times a week, and I always like to do it in the evening in case any irritation occurs. Right from the get go, I used this cleanser 3x a day: once in the morning and double cleanse at night, mostly because I was so fascinated by the texture and how my skin felt afterwards, and also for the sake of experimentation. I wanted to see how far I could go before my skin started yelling at me.
Well, it never did.
After a month, I realized I had blown through half the bottle and I needed to slow down so I could enjoy it longer. Logically speaking, I didn’t need to use it 3x a day either, but I still love using it once a day. Oddly enough, I really enjoy using it first thing in the morning. After I rub it between my fingers, I like to inhale the scent deeply before massaging it into my skin. It’s practically therapeutic. Before I rinse it off, I like to leave it on for another 5-10 seconds, just to give my skin a chance to absorb the beneficial ingredients. After I rinse, my skin feels clean without squeaking – not parched and no redness. In the last few months, I have not felt the need to exfoliate my skin any further, which is surprising! And I consider myself to be rather in tune with my dead skin buildup, as disgusting as that may sound.
Those of your with very sensitive skin might not want to use it daily as I am, but as I’ve mentioned in an earlier post, you’d be hard pressed to find a more gentle exfoliant!
